  1. Chuck Carr

    Incredible Read!
After reading The Water Keeper—first in the Murphy Shepherd Series by Charles Martin—I admit it, I wasn’t sure how the author could top such a novel. Still, I read the next book in line. And hooked to the core, I was shocked. Martin did not disappoint. The groundwork for this second novel was laid; the characters and storyline were already paved. And with that foundation Martin wasted no time. The story plunged straight in.Jumping headfirst into the action, protagonist Murphey Shepherd takes us into the reality of a world of modern-day slavery. A horrible world. The world of human trafficking—a world that should never exist but does—where we learn the value and significance of the single soul. A broken soul. The cost to rescue a soul. A soul like you and me.And how magnificent is that redemption! A light that shines in the darkness. There were moments that awoke my core values, summoning me to stand for those who could not stand for themselves. There were gripping moments that challenged the artist within me, with my heart speaking to my soul, saying: “you must voice for the broken as well!” Book in hand—again as before—I marked my copy up with ink. I dog-eared the corners of inspiring pages with phrases and sections I’d return to. It kept me up at night; I thought about its message during the day. Though my wife hasn’t read it yet, I found myself busting at the seams to tell her about the novel’s craft, the incredible moments it possesses, its characters, and what they meant to me.The Letter Keeper comes to life. It is a novel that clings to you.Without spoiling anything, I’ll just tell you to read it. It’s a one-of-a-kind, story that I promise will heal you. Inspire you. Challenge you. Perhaps even spark you to do something about the condition of the world in which we live in today.Well done, Charles Martin. And so—verbatim from his first in the series—if you are looking for a good read, one that will keep you page-turning late at night, one that will pull your heartstrings, one that will inspire you to new heights, or one that will make you say “come on, man! You can’t end a chapter there,” then pick up a copy of Charles Martin’s The Letter Keeper wherever books are sold. I give The Letter Keeper the highest rating possible.Incredible.

    Intense and action-packed
The Letter Keeper is another action-packed story of Murphy’s life. As he recovers from an explosion, he is asked to tell the story of how he and Marie, his first love, met, from children to adults. We find out more about him than we did in the first book, layers peeled back and revealed. Most of the story is told from his refuge in Freetown, Colorado with Bones, Summer, and the girls he rescued in the first book. This book is most of all thought provoking and deep, once more evil vs good. And there is an evil man one step ahead. This ends on a surprise note that makes me want to go to the next one.

Another good time with Murph and bones..
Martin does it again with Murph and his ensemble. A compelling read that sheds a real light on the terrible scourge of human trafficking and was a worthy sequel to “The water keeper.” While the plot was engaging, some parts did appear to go for just a bit too long. I realize it might be difficult to write about human emotions and to properly convey what another person is feeling, but can anyone really capture it in print? Mr. Martin tries to but at times appears to try too much, and the story suffers for it. Some readers may enjoy the deep dives into human emotion, but certainly, a paragraph or two should suffice at any given moment. Regardless, the writing is well executed, easy to read, and yes, emotional as I found myself tearing up in a few parts, and definitely a gem in this genre.

    A Great Read!
It started off slow but, then I couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed this book. Now on to book 3.

  5. Kimberly Rolston

Even more gripping than the first
So I read book one and loved the way it was written and loved the story, so I bought books 2 and 3. After finishing book 2, I must say that it’s even better than book 1, which doesn’t often happen! This was a fantastic book, the storyline is great. The story of the people are great. These books could easily become movies!

  6. Binky

    Eye opening
This book shines a bright light on sex trafficking, the brutal truth, the evil men and women behind it, and the robbing of innocence. It also tells of the dedication, bravery, tenacity, and love of the dedicated men and women who dare to rescue and these damaged innocent children and endeavor to help them heal. Charlie Martin is a man who posses a deep and gentle love that is so evident in his writing.

  7. DannaH

    Second Books a Keeper
This book is the second in the series and it is just as good as the first. Her we dive deeper into the back story of Murphy and love grows stronger for everyone. The action parts take on a new dimension because it’s all so close to home. I’m starting the third book now. I don’t seem to be able to take a break from this story!

  8. Iamabuus

    Great read
Excellent writing. Captivating material. Only issue is The number of times the hero is knifed, shot, and otherwise wounded, seems somewhat over the top and not totally necessary h

  9. Debbie S

I really enjoyed this book, but probably not as much as the first one. However, you can always rely on Charles Martin to deliver a fascinating story.

  10. D. C.

Incredibly well written. We love these characters, and the depictions of the worst crimes in history going on in our lifetime.

  11. Gill Hargrove

the more I read the better it got!

  12. Colleen Woods

Great series. He is an amazing author

  13. Simon

The first two thirds of this book is romantic tosh, however, it’s worth pushing through as the last third is excellent.
